Bijar is a town in Kurdistan Province of western Iran. The region has long been home to Kurdish tribes, and their weaving traditions deeply shaped the carpet style.
Bijar carpets became especially well known from the 18th–19th centuries, during the late Safavid and Qajar periods.
Weaving Techniques used are:
The wool weft is moistened before weaving.
It’s then hammered down with heavy metal combs.
This compresses the structure to an extreme degree.
Warp: Cotton (sometimes wool in older or tribal pieces)
Pile: High-quality wool from local sheep
Dyes: Traditionally natural (indigo, madder, walnut husk)
Knot: Turkish (symmetrical) knot, common in Kurdish weaving
Bijar carpets often feel heavier and thicker than other Persian rugs of similar size.
Shipment is charged if outside of CA.
Lifetime Return / Exchange Policy.
